Cheesy Turkey Burger

Ground turkey is a low fat, healthy meat. However, it has little flavor and needs help. Grilling helps some but is not enough to make a turkey burger flavorful. It does have a distinctive flavor but reminds me of tofu in that it needs the addition of more flavors.

1 pound lean ground turkey

2 thin slices red onion, minced

1 green onion, finely chopped

1/4 cup plain Panko breadcrumbs

1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

3 tablespoons coarse-grained mustard

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1//2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and thoroughly mix. The mixture will be sticky and rubber gloves are highly recommended. They are also useful when forming the mixture into patties, that is the next step. Placing the patties on small sheets of waxed paper will facilitate transferring them to the grill as well as saving a trip to the kitchen for a clean plate for the cooked patties.

Prepare the grill for hot direct cooking. Grill the burgers directly over the fire (lid closed) for 4 minutes per side, then an additional 2 minutes on the first side.
